Skiing safely is everyone’s responsibility. At ski resorts, you don’t want to be the person who mows others down. People who do not know the proper safety rules put everyone in danger. But it can also get you in trouble on the slopes; even have your ski pass revoked. Here are the top ways to be a polite, safe skier.

  • Don’t go too fast. And always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
  • Stay on the designated paths. Do not venture off path where you put yourself and others at risk.
  • Don’t try to ski on paths that are above your skill level. You will be endangering more experienced skiers.
  • Carry a phone in case you get lost or hurt and are alone. Or, ski with friends.
  • Don’t cut too close to other skiers. Be aware there some beginners that do not know as much as you.
  • Watch out for others. Be courteous.
  • Do not obstruct a trail, especially on a slope where you may not be visible from up the mountain.
  • Be sure to yield when entering a slope to watch out for skiers coming down the mountain.
  • It is always your responsibility, regardless of your level, to be courteous to others skiers. This makes the ski slopes safer for all of us.
  • Obey all warnings and slope signs. This is for your safety.
  • Exit the lifts properly as instructed.
